Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities)
Rules, 1977 -- Amendment

NOTIFICATIONS
New Delhi, the 12th February, 2004
G.S.R. 113(E).-- In exercise of the powers conferred by S.83 of the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 1976 (60 of 1976), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977,namely:--
1. (1) These rules may be called the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2004.
(2) Rr.2 and 8 of this notification shall come into force on the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette and the other provisions of this notification shall come into force on the 1 st day of September, 2004.
2. In the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 1977, (hereinafter referred to as the said Rules), in R.2, in clause (x), in sub-clauses (i) and (ii) respectively the word "or" shall be inserted at the end.
3. In the R.24 of the said rules,--
(a) in sub-r.(4), --
(i) Cl.(b) shall be omitted;
(ii) in Cl.(c), the word "twice" shall be omitted;
(b) in sub-r.(6),--
(i) Cl.(b) shall be omitted;
(ii) in Cl.(c), the word "twice" shall be omitted;
4. In R.25 of the said rules,--
(a) Cl.(b) shall be omitted;
(b) in Cl.(c), the word "twice" shall be omitted.
5. In R.26 of the said Rules, in sub-rr.(2), (3) and (4), the word "twice" shall be omitted.
6. In R.33 of the said Rules,--
(a) in the proviso to clause (i), in sub-r.(1), the words "and month and year of manufacture or packing", shall be omitted;
(b) for the brackets, figure and words "(4). The particulars of declaration", the brackets, figure, letter and words (3A). The particulars of declarations shall be substituted;
(c) in sub-r.(4), for the words and figures "Chapter VI and Rr.39 to 40 of Chapter VII", the words and figures "Chapter VI, Rr.39 to 40 of Chapter VII and the schedules to these rules" shall be substituted.
7. In the First Schedule to the said rules,--
(a) serial No.4 relating to Detergent, cleaning/scouring powder and the like and the entries relating thereto shall be omitted;
(b) for serial No.6 relating to Ghee, Vanaspati and edible oils and the entries against it, thefollowing serial number and entries shall be substituted, namely:—

8. In the Third Schedule to the said rules, for Serial No.18 relating to Aerated soft drinks non-alcoholic beverages and the entries against it, the following serial number and entries shall be substituted, namely:-
"18. Aerated soft drinks, 65 ml (fruit juice only), 100 ml, 125ml (fruit juice only),
Non-alcoholic 150 ml, 200 ml, 250 ml, 300 ml, 330 ml (in cans only), 500 ml
Beverages 750 ml,1 litre, 1.5 litre, 2 litre, 3 litre, 4 litre and 5 litre".
9. In the Ninth Schedule to the said rules, in the Table below paragraph 1 column (3) and the entries thereunder shall be omitted.
